Introduction

The University Clinical Aptitude Test (UCAT) is a two-hour, computer-based exam designed to assess key cognitive abilities, attitudes, and professional behaviours required for success in medicine, dentistry, and clinical sciences. For students applying to commence undergraduate medical programs in 2026, UCAT ANZ scores were automatically sent to participating universities ahead of application submissions through VTAC, UAC, or other relevant systems.

Starting in 2025, the Abstract Reasoning subtest will be removed from the UCAT ANZ. The updated test will include three cognitive subtests and the Situational Judgement Test.

New UCAT Structure & UCAT Test Timing

Subtest Questions Time Score Range
Verbal Reasoning 44 22 minutes 300–900
Decision Making 35 37 minutes 300–900
Quantitative Reasoning 36 26 minutes 300–900
Total Cognitive Score 900–2700
Situational Judgement 69 26 minutes 300–900

Note: Introductory screens for each subtest are timed separately. The full test duration is just under 2 hours.

Access arrangements (e.g., UCATSEN) will include adjusted test times.

  • Testing Period: 1 July – 5 August 2025

*These dates are based on the 2025 UCAT cycle. While official 2026 dates are yet to be confirmed, the schedule is expected to follow a similar timeline with minor changes to specific days.

UCAT ANZ Registration Process

To sit the UCAT ANZ, students must complete a two-step registration process through the Pearson VUE system:

  1. Create an online account
  2. Book a test

Pearson VUE is the official organisation that administers the UCAT ANZ at testing centres across Australia and New Zealand. Registration is done via the official UCAT website.

Once you’ve created an account, you’ll need to enter all required personal information. After registration, you’ll be assigned a UCAT ANZ ID number, which will appear in the top-left corner of your Pearson VUE account page. This ID should be used in all correspondence with Pearson VUE and the UCAT ANZ Office.

Important:

Candidates are only permitted to create one account. If you’re a returning candidate, use your existing Pearson VUE account. Ensure your personal details are accurate and up to date.

If you experience login issues, refer to the FAQs on the UCAT website for assistance.

Be sure to read all instructions on the UCAT Website carefully before registering and booking your test.

Book Your UCAT 2026 ANZ Test Online

Log in to your Pearson VUE account to book your UCAT ANZ test. Follow the booking instructions and be prepared to answer required questions during the process.

After booking, you’ll receive two confirmation emails:

  • Booking confirmation with your test details (also visible in your Pearson VUE account).
  • Payment confirmation is a receipt for your test fee.

Important UCAT Fees for 2026*

Test Type / Fee Amount (AUD) Notes
Standard Test Fee (Australia / New Zealand) $325 Applies to tests taken within Australia or NZ
Concession Fee (Australia only) $240 Available to eligible concession holders
International Test Fee $395 Applies to tests taken outside Australia and NZ
Late Booking Fee +$85 Applies after standard booking closes (from 17 May)
Final Late Booking Fee +$185 Applies after late booking closes (from 31 May)
Refund Fee $50 deducted $50 non-refundable if cancelling your test
Rescheduling Fee $25 Applies to changes made after 29 June, 11:59pm AEST

*These fees are based on the 2025 UCAT cycle. While official 2026 fees have yet to be confirmed, a similar set of fees can be expected for 2026.

We strongly recommend booking your UCAT test early in the July testing period. Booking a later date increases the risk of missing your test due to unexpected issues like illness or personal emergencies.

If you’re unable to attend your test, you must reschedule in advance; otherwise, your test fee will be forfeited. Rescheduling can be done through your Pearson VUE account or by contacting Pearson VUE Customer Services.

Note: At least 24 hours’ notice is required to reschedule your test.

UCAT Test Day 2026

Fitness to Test:

By attending, you confirm you are fit to take the test. If you feel unwell or face issues affecting your performance, reschedule your test, even if it means paying fees again. Sitting the test while unfit is not considered a valid excuse for poor performance.

Exam Rules & ID:

Familiarise yourself with the UCAT ANZ Exam Rules beforehand. Bring one valid official photo ID listed in the Photo ID Policy to check in.

Check-In Procedure:

Arrive 30 minutes early with your ID and exam confirmation (print or electronic). Late arrivals over 15 minutes will forfeit their test fee and must rebook.

At check-in, you will:

  • Show your ID
  • Read and sign the exam rules
  • Have your photo taken
  • Store all belongings (except permitted religious or medical items) in lockers
  • Undergo a brief security inspection

If you arrive early, you may start early if a seat is available, or wait until your scheduled time.

Security & Facilities:

Only test takers are allowed in the test centre; no waiting areas for companions. Plan travel with extra time for unexpected delays. The test lasts about 2 hours.

For any check-in concerns, contact Pearson VUE Customer Services at least 5 business days before your test.

Sitting the Test

After check-in, you’ll be escorted to your desk, equipped with a PC, keyboard, and mouse. You will receive a laminated notebook and marker pen, ask the invigilator if these aren’t provided, and check the pen works before starting.

You’ll share the room with other test takers. Some noise may occur as others arrive, leave, or receive assistance, but staff will minimise disturbances.

Occasionally, fire alarm tests may happen. Notices will be posted, and in the event of a real emergency, staff will guide you to evacuate safely.

Once your test starts, you’re under exam conditions and should begin promptly. You’ll be monitored by CCTV and an invigilator.

If you need a break (e.g., to use the toilet), raise your hand to ask. The test clock continues during breaks, and you’ll undergo a brief visual inspection before returning. It’s best to take breaks between subtests to reduce lost time.

When finished, raise your hand to signal the invigilator, who will end your test and escort you out.

Note: Results are available within 24 hours in your Pearson VUE account, not immediately after the test.

FAQs - UCAT 2026

1. Can I sit the UCAT ANZ and UCAT UK in the same year?

No. You can only sit one version of the UCAT per year. Sitting both UCAT ANZ and UCAT UK in the same year is considered misconduct and will result in your results being cancelled.

2. Can top students do well on UCAT without studying?

UCAT tests skills not typically taught in school, such as abstract reasoning, decision-making, and time management under pressure. Even high-achieving students find the test challenging. Strategic preparation will be crucial for performing well.

3. What if I’m sick on UCAT Test Day?

If you’re unwell or face unexpected issues, you should reschedule in advance. By sitting the test, you confirm you are “fit to test.” Poor performance due to illness is not a valid reason for appeal, and missed tests without rescheduling mean you’ll lose your full test fee.

4. What’s the best way to build confidence and speed for the UCAT?

While free materials are great for familiarising yourself with the format, many students struggle with timing, strategy, and test-day pressure. That’s why focused preparation with expert support can make a big difference.

Consider structured programs like Fraser’s UCAT Strategy Weekend, where you can learn proven techniques, understand question patterns, and build speed under pressure, all in a simulated test environment. Take a look at the courses offered by Fraser’s Medical to build confidence today!
