Are you planning to take the GAMSAT Exam in 2025? If so, you're joining thousands of ambitious students who are embarking on their GAMSAT 2025 preparation - a significant step on their journey to a career in medicine.

The GAMSAT is more than just an exam; it's a measure of your ability to think critically, solve problems, and demonstrate a solid understanding of basic science concepts. It's a psychometric test that's designed to identify those who have the intellectual capacity to excel in demanding medical and health science programs.

Starting your preparation early gives you ample time to familiarise yourself with the GAMSAT exam format, hone your problem-solving skills, and deepen your understanding of the necessary scientific concepts.

GAMSAT Exam Dates 2025

Understanding the timing of the GAMSAT exam is crucial for effective preparation and planning. The Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER), the organisation responsible for conducting the GAMSAT exam, typically offers two testing windows each year. For Australian candidates, the primary testing period is in March and September, while for those in the UK and Ireland, it's in September.

If you're aiming to start medical school in 2027, you’ll need to be aware of the GAMSAT September 2025 and March GAMSAT 2026 Dates. Keep in mind that the application cycle for medicine programs starting in 2027 begins in May 2026, so you'll need a valid GAMSAT score from the September 2025 or March 2026 exam to apply. For 2027 entry, all GAMSAT scores since September 2022 will also be valid.

An Overview of the GAMSAT Exam Structure

For 2025/26 GAMSAT, ACER is most likely to retain the format used in the previous years. This means, the entire exam duration is set at 5 hours and 25 minutes with the following breakdown:

Section Description Number of Questions Time in Minutes
Section 1 Reasoning in Humanities & Social Sciences 62 100
Section 2 Written Communication 2 65
Section 3 Reasoning in Biological & Physical Sciences 75 150

For detailed insight into the topics to be covered in each section refer to the GAMSAT Syllabus for 2025

2025/2026 GAMSAT Exam Day Timing

Written Communication (Remote Proctoring) 23 - 24 August 2025 Early March 2026

ACER has split up how the exam is delivered across the Sections. Students will complete Section 2 on 23 - 24 August 2025 for the September GAMSAT. The Section 2 component will be completed at home where students have to type and submit their pieces of writing on their computer through the ACER Portal with an Online Proctor (ProctorU) watching everything you type and do on your screen.

Then, roughly 2 weeks later, students will complete their Section 1 & Section 3 components together at a test centre. From 12-14 September 2025 for the September GAMSAT, students will complete S1 & S3 via a computer (not their own) at a test centre with a 20 minute break in between each section to eat and go to the bathroom. You will have a choice between arriving at the test centre at 8am, or completing the exam in the afternoon session starting at 2:30pm.

How Many Times A Year Does The GAMSAT Run?

Typically, Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER), the organisation responsible for conducting the GAMSAT exam , provides two testing windows in a year. The major testing window for Australia is in March, while the UK and Ireland major testing time is in September. All of this changed in 2020, when GAMSAT was cancelled in March and subsequently conducted in May to align with the COVID-19 restrictions.

If you are planning to enter a medical school in 2026, then you need to start preparing for the approaching March 2025 GAMSAT at the earliest. Note that the GEMSAS application cycle for medicine starting in 2026 is in May of 2025, so you need a valid GAMSAT score from march in order to apply.

The team at Fraser's has consolidated all the key information about the upcoming GAMSATs and the registration process so you know what you need to plan for when.

Do I meet 2025 Requirements? Checking the Eligibility

Before you embark on your GAMSAT journey, it's important to ensure that you meet the eligibility criteria. The GAMSAT is open to anyone who is applying to a course that requires the GAMSAT and can meet the academic entry requirements set by the universities.

To be eligible for the GAMSAT, you need to have completed a bachelor's degree or an undergraduate honours degree, or be in your penultimate (second-last) or final year of study at the time of sitting the test. This information is explicitly stated by ACER in their Information Booklet.

How to Register for the GAMSAT?

Registering for the GAMSAT exam is straightforward, but it's essential to get it right to avoid any complications later on. Here's a step-by-step guide to help you navigate the GAMSAT 2025 registration process:

1. Create an ACER Online Account

The first step is to create an ACER online account. This account will be your gateway to all GAMSAT-related activities, including registration, receiving announcements, obtaining your GAMSAT Admission Ticket, and accessing your GAMSAT Statement of Results.

2. Register for the GAMSAT

Once your ACER account is set up, you can register for the GAMSAT during the relevant registration window. To do this, you'll need to fill in the registration form and submit the required payment.

3. Confirm Your Registration

After completing your registration and payment, you'll receive a confirmation email and a payment receipt.

4. Download Your Admission Ticket

Your admission ticket, which contains details of your reporting time and test center address, will be available for download from your online account two to three weeks before the test window. You'll be notified by email when your admission ticket is ready.

Important Information Regarding GAMSAT Registration

  • Ensure that the personal information you provide, including your full legal name and date of birth matches the identification document. This will be used for the exam ticket and the university to match your medical application
  • You can only submit one registration per person, per GAMSAT cycle. Creating multiple accounts to complete more than one registration for either the March 2025 or September 2025 test windows will result in duplicate registrations being cancelled.

GAMSAT 2025 Test Day: Things To Do

Arrival to the GAMSAT Exam

It is good to leave home early, taking into account any possible disasters that could occur on route to your test centre. You are required to be at the test centre at 8am, so targeting to arrive between 7:30-7:45am would be optimal.

You do not want to arrive so early that you are waiting around for too long - this will increase your nerves & may psyche you out before entering the room.

Be sure to familiarise yourself with the mode of transportation a few days early. This can help you avoid any unforeseen circumstances on the day of the exam.

Relevant Documents Needed for GAMSAT Test day

Ensure that you bring to your GAMSAT:

  1. Printed Admission Ticket
  2. Two Photo Identification Proofs
  3. Pencils (medium soft No. 2 or HB Recommended, sharpeners, erasers, pens and required stationery)
  4. Pack light lunch or snacks like protein bars to consume during the 30-minute allotted break time
  5. Personal medications if any.
  6. A clear water bottle without labels.
  7. Ensure you carry a water bottle or other fresh juices. Avoid caffeine and fizzy drinks
  8. Dress in layers so you can adjust your comfort accordingly.
